The Center for Women's Recovery

The causes of addiction among women are many and varied. Societal expectations and traditions are such that women are encouraged to care for and nurture others, often at the expense of their own needs, identity and health. Women who balance career and family often deal with guilt while still others struggle with issues ranging from depleted self-esteem to body image and co-dependency. As a result, too many women today turn to drugs and alcohol to help them cope with the guilt, shame, loneliness and helplessness they so often come to feel.

It is with these needs in mind that Hanley Center designed a treatment program specifically for women between the ages of 18 and 54.

We Understand Women's Issues

Each patient's course of treatment is highly individualized and steeped in thorough clinical diagnostics. Professional assessments and evaluations are employed to identify and address co-occurring disorders such as:

  • Anxiety
  • OCD
  • Co-dependency
  • Panic disorders
  • Depression
  • Phobic disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Trauma

Treatment for Women by Women

The Center for Women's Recovery provides a safe and nurturing sanctuary where women can begin mending lives torn apart by alcohol and drugs. An all-female staff, trained in women's issues, understands the underlying causes of addiction in women and takes a proven, multidisciplinary approach to treating each patient. Our gender-responsive, 12-Step-based treatment fosters self-renewal through a combination of individual and group therapy sessions, wellness activities, spiritual introspection and the support of our comprehensive outpatient services.

Bringing Life Back into Balance

Small group therapy sessions allow patients to share personal issues in an atmosphere of trust, safety, care and compassion. Art Therapy, Music Therapy and Pet Therapy are offered to help patients open up and be receptive to treatment. Our full-time Medical Director is an expert in women's issues and hormonal shifts. Under her direction, the medical staff addresses physical ills while our team of Spiritual Care Professionals helps place faith in the context of recovery. While women are taught to take their first step toward sobriety, lasting recovery depends on faithfully utilizing the tools acquired during treatment. Once residential treatment is complete, an Alumni Care Manager works with the patient throughout her first full year of recovery. Patients may also participate in our Family Education Program, in which family members learn how to cope with the effects of chemical dependency.
