Family Program
The Family Program is an educational, supportive and non-confrontational program for persons 18 years of age and older who have been affected by another persons chemical dependency. The program offers information to help individuals better understand chemical dependency, treatment, and family recovery. The Program consists of lectures, video presentations and group discussions on addiction, relapse, recovery, family dynamics, and the effects of addiction on children. It is designed as a group experience where participants create a safe environment in which they are free to express their experiences, frustrations, hopes and concerns. With the help of experienced counselors, participants learn how families function as they cope with chemical dependency and recovery. The Family Program helps those who live with or care about a chemically dependent person break the family cycle of silence and shame.
"Family" refers to anyone who knows and cares about the chemically dependent person. This may include family members, friends and significant others. Participants include family members and clients who may not be related to each other. This three-day weekend program is offered Friday through Sunday.
The Extended Family Program spans an additional day, Monday, and is designed to provide patients and their loved ones with a shared educational group experience intended to help improve family communication skills. Each family also has a one-hour session facilitated by a Family Program Counselor. Those who wish to attend must have completed the Family Program and be referred by the patient's primary counselor.
Patients admitted to the Hanley Center may have one person attend the Family Education Program at no additional charge. The cost of hotel accommodations is also included for those who reside outside Palm Beach County. Other family members and significant others may attend at an additional fee. This program is also available to interested community members.
Family Education Program participants receive information about Al-Anon, CODA, and other 12-Step support groups to assist in their long-term recovery.
