Hanley Center and Psynchronous Break New Ground with Google Partnership
As a non-profit organization, part of Hanley's challenge is to get its message to more of the people who need to hear and do it in the most efficient manner. Psynchronous Communications, Inc., a Boston-based full-service marketing communications agency, has been working with Hanley Center for several years and recently helped Hanley integrate Google Audio Ads and Google Television into Hanley's marketing strategy. Hanley Center Launches Passport to Peace for Kids and Families
Passport to Peace, a program launched by Hanley Center's Prevention Services, issues a new kind of passport for elementary school children in grades K through 5, and it doesn't require travel. Instead, according to Lynn Geulzow, Director of Hanley's Prevention Services, the passport represents a trip in which kids learn to develop positive social attitudes and stop violent behavior.

Hanley Hope Publishing Releases First Book
With the publishing of its first book, the non-profit Hanley Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, has formally launched Hanley Hope Publishing, which will specialize in recovery-related books, literature, audio/video and other media. The debut title is Men's Healing: A Toolbox for Life, co-authored by Alan Lyme, MSW, LCSW, CAP, Director of Education and Staff Development, Hanley Center, David Powell, PhD, and Stephen Andrew, LCSW, LADC, CGP, with forward by well-known author, John Lee.

Kids' Place/Teens' Place Winter Session Begins January 24
Kids' Place/Teens' Place are Hanley Center Prevention programs designed to serve children ages 6-12 and 13-17 who have parent(s) or family member(s) dealing with substance abuse issues. The free ten-week, 90-minute programs helps Kids and Teens better understand that chemical dependency is a disease and how they may have been affected by addiction. Participants cover the following topics: Addiction, Feelings, Communicating Feelings, Safe People, Coping, Problem Solving, Treatment and Recovery. Sessions held at Hanley Center are directed in small groups to encourage and provide participants comfortable open discussions concerning the affects of chemical dependency. Session 10 invites all family members to attend for a night of fun activities. Call (561) 841-1214 to register for sessions. Attendance is open.

Hanley Center and MDVIP Announce Alliance
Hanley Center and MDVIP, Inc., a national network of physicians who practice proactive, preventative and personalized healthcare announce a new partnership. Starting in Florida, Hanley will provide MDVIP and affiliated physicians with vital information relative to substance abuse and a patient referral mechanism for chemical dependency treatment.

First Walk/Run a Runaway Success
Over 200 runners and walkers of all ages showed up at Okeeheelee Park to participate in Hanley Center's inaugural "One Step at a Time 5K". Led by committee chair Amanda Guelzow, the event was an overwhelming success. The event was a fundraiser for the Recovery Ambassador Program Hanley Center will be implementing in 2008. Prescription Drug Epidemic to be Focus of Community Forums
The Sarasota Coalition on Substance Abuse (SCoSA) will sponsor a free informative forum focusing on what has become a prescription drug epidemic in Sarasota County, especially among high school students. The forum will be held twice: from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at School District Offices on US 41 in the Landings (brown awning building), and on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Venice Community Center.

Hanley Center's Prevention Department has been presented the Silver Medalist Award for Healthcare Partners in Education by the School District of Palm Beach County. Hanley Center Prevention was selected out of 100 nominees for all of the prevention services it provides in the school system.

The recent suicide of WWE wrestler, Chris Benoit, and apparent murder of his wife and seven-year old son in suburban Atlanta has prompted discussion about the emotional and mental risks of non-medical anabolic steroid use. Dr. Barbara Krantz, chief medical officer of Hanley Center, says that these steroids are not only illegal without a doctor’Äôs prescription, they are dangerous drugs, with serious psychological and medical side effects.

BOSTON (Reuters) - When Patrick Gallagher first began nodding off at dinner, his family thought it was a symptom of old age. Their fears grew as it worsened. Withdrawing from the world at age 64, Gallagher was addicted to a cocktail of alcohol and prescription painkillers.
